A nonprofit, Energy Resource Center’s mission is to help income-qualified Colorado residents live their best life through energy-efficient home upgrades for healthier and happier homes. Qualifying homes include single-family, mobile, or multi-family. This includes rental properties with a qualified tenant and owner approval.

These efforts save money on energy bills, reduce demand for natural resources by cutting energy waste, assist with the affordable housing crisis, and create a safe and comfortable environment in which Colorado residents can thrive.

Federal funding for this work, also known as weatherization, comes from the Weatherization Assistance Program through the Colorado Energy Office and the U.S. Department of Energy.

OUTCOMES

ERC’s work both improves human lives and protects the environment. The statistical impact of our work includes but is not limited to:

Utility Savings

Utility Savings

Saving households an average of 25% of their utility costs on an annual basis, a meaningful saving, particularly for those on fixed incomes.

Sustainable Solutions

Sustainable Solutions

The availability of safe, affordable housing strengthens neighborhoods. Energy efficient home upgrades are long-lasting, contributing up to 20 years to the longevity of homes and their affordability, which assists residents to remain in them.

Health and Safety

Health and Safety

ERC’s work contributes to community health and safety by reducing the risk of fires, improving a home’s ability to withstand climate events, and addressing potentially dangerous emergency no-heat or hot water situations.

Better Quality of Life

Better Quality of Life

Studies indicate that health issues such as asthma and respiratory problems are mitigated after receiving weatherization services, particularly among seniors and children. Stress is reduced when a home is comfortable and families can sleep well.

Weatherization

Weatherization

The Weatherization Assistance Program is proven to address complex issues that contribute to racial and economic inequities. A Rocky Mountain Institute article, 8/2020, states: “…weatherization programs improve racial and income equity…and can help counteract the impact of the variety of factors that have contributed to racial and economic inequities such as residential segregation, economic burdens, and extreme weather and climate impacts due to substandard housing.”

Global Impact

Global Impact

Home energy efficiency upgrades have a significant impact on the environment by removing greenhouse gasses and reducing the load on fossil-fueled power plants. Approximately 3,755 pounds of CO2 are saved each year for each home ERC serves.

Reduce Natural Resource Dependency

Reduce Natural Resource Dependency

The Colorado Energy Office measurements confirm that increased home energy efficiency as a result of ERC programs equates to the use of fewer natural resources.

Safety

The health and safety of our clients, crews, and partners is an unwavering commitment for ERC. We maintain strict safety protocols and crews are trained in safety measures that ensure everyone’s safety. ERC contractors also are held to clear safety standards.
