The HVAC Technician/Installer will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in residential properties. This position requires expertise in HVAC installation, troubleshooting, and system maintenance, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Helps with the installation and/or repair of heating equipment and ductwork.
- Performs brazing and sheet metal fabrication.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses a wide variety of residential HVAC equipment.
- Safely operates hand and power tools.
- Operates and understands the use of HVAC diagnostic equipment such as combustion analyzer, multimeter, manometer, etc.
- Tracks material and labor time usage
- Maintains a clean and organized vehicle and worksite
- Completes accurate file paperwork, as necessary
- Interact with clients in a respectful, competent and professional manner
- Available to flexibly work as support to weatherization crews/energy auditors as necessary
- When HVAC technicians have completed their assigned tasks and are not occupied with primary responsibilities, they are expected to assist the weatherization crews or other departments as needed to support overall production goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent with 3 years’ experience in HVAC service work or four years’ experience in residential construction/remodeling. Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening. Candidates will be subject to a criminal background check and motor vehicle report. (See job-specific qualifications below):
- Candidates must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of hiring and no major violations within past 3 years.
- Ability to work with and comprehend different varieties, models and brands of HVAC systems.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team to accomplish established goals and timelines.
- Ability to work safely with electricity, flammable fuel lines and to perform effectively in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment, hand tools and diagnostic hardware.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and respond to management direction.
- Ability to use time efficiently.
- Ability to read, comprehend and apply safety measures in the workplace.
- Candidates must have PPRBD Mech 4 license or acquire within 12 months.
- Candidates must be able to obtain a NATE certification within 12 months (training and certification costs are supplied by ERC).
- Candidates must have EPA 608 or be able to acquire within 12 months
PREFERRED SKILLS: (Licensing/Certification)
- Journeyman level knowledge of heating, ventilating, air conditioning a plus.
REPORTS TO: Reports Directly to HVAC Supervisor in collaboration with HVAC Manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: No supervisory responsibilities
TRAVEL: Travel IS required to and from service region job sites.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: These are essential functions and are required to perform the work effectively. Applicant must be able to lift up to 60lbs. and occasionally 75lbs. Must be able to maneuver and perform work in tight spaces with a minimum of 24” of vertical clearance, work on roofs and ladders up to 35 feet in height. While performing job related duties applicants will be required to speak, hear, and see while maintaining ability to bend, kneel, or crawl in tight spaces such as crawl spaces, basements, attics, and behind walls to access areas for HVAC installs while utilizing hand/power tools. Must be able to work in confined, dusty, or poorly lit spaces, as well as in extreme temperature conditions (hot, cold, or humid) when installing HVAC systems in various areas of the home. Exposure to noise from HVAC equipment, tools, and machinery, especially in the installation or repair phase.
