The Energy Resource Center is now helping households in Denver and Jefferson counties make their homes safer, more comfortable and more affordable to live in.
The Colorado Energy Office announced today that it has contracted the Energy Resource Center to provide free energy efficiency home improvements and weatherization services to income-qualified families in Denver and Jefferson counties.
Why the ERC won the contract
The state energy office selected ERC to run this program because the nonprofit has extensive experience. Started in 1979, the Energy Resource Center has helped thousands of Coloradans make their homes safer and more comfortable while permanently reducing their utility bills.
ERC currently serves 13 Colorado counties, including El Paso, Teller, Fremont, Douglas and Elbert counties from its Colorado Springs location, and Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Saguache, Rio Grande and Mineral counties from its Alamosa office.
How ERC will serve Denver and Jefferson counties
The Energy Resource Center will have a Denver base at 953 Decatur Street.
From there, 32 full-time technicians will be dispatched to make energy efficiency home improvements for income-qualified residents throughout Denver and Jefferson counties.
Who can ERC help?
Anyone with an income 200 percent of poverty can qualify for free energy efficiency improvement and weatherization services from ERC. A family of four with an annual income up to $47,700 would qualify.
Applying for ERC assistance in Denver and Jefferson counties is simple. You will automatically qualify for the program if you currently receive assistance from any of the following programs: Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Aid to the Needy and Disabled (AND), Old Age Pension (OAP) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
How can you help ERC in Denver and Jefferson counties?
Aside from donating to support ERC efforts, you can hire the Energy Resource Center to perform a comprehensive home energy audit and any desired energy efficiency improvements to your home even if you don’t qualify for free services.
If you aren’t income-qualified for free energy efficiency upgrades and weatherization assistance, you can pay a fee for ERC’s services. All profits from paid services support the organization’s free operations.
