FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Collaboration Provides 100 Computers to Ortega Middle School Students to Support Technology at Home
Alamosa, CO October 17, 2016 – With the help of several community organizations, Alamosa School District will provide free computers to 100 selected students who qualified through an application process. The computers will be distributed to the selected students’ families on Friday, October 21, between 2:30 and 4:00 pm, at the OMS campus at 401 Victoria Ave. Several civic-minded groups collaborated to organize and sponsor this event including: the Energy Resource Center, PCs for People, the Alamosa School District, WSB Computer Services and CenturyLink. The intent is to help bridge the “Digital Divide” that exists between families that have access to connected computers and those who don’t. Charlie Sanchez, ASD School Board of Education member, started the conversation with PCs for People, and as a result 100 ASD families will be provided with the tools needed to succeed in school and future careers.
PCs for People, a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, will distribute the computers. PCs for People is a nonprofit social enterprise focused on bridging the digital divide by providing affordable computers and Internet connectivity to low-income families and students.
